The World Health Organization (WHO) will visit China as soon as possible to study the origins of the Covid-19. This was conveyed by WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as reported by Reuters on Tuesday. The WHO plan and hope to be on the field as soon as possible. Earlier in a special meeting of the organization's executive board on Monday (5/10/2020), WHO was waiting for the Chinese Government to agree on the composition of an international team to be sent there to investigate the origins of the Covid-19 outbreak.
WHO Health Emergencies Program Executive Director Mike Ryan said he had selected experts from around the world for the mission and had submitted it to the Chinese side for consideration. The list of candidates has been submitted to the Chinese authorities for consideration and the next step is to mobilize the team according to the South China Morning Post on Friday (9/10/2020).
In May, WHO received pressure from various member countries to follow up on research on how the SARS-CoV-2 virus can move from animals and infect humans. Then in July, WHO said that world experts could begin their investigation in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, which was the center of the first outbreak found in December 2019. Earlier in August, two WHO experts were reported to have worked with Chinese health authorities and scientists to lay the groundwork for investigating its origins.
