Venezuela: Chavista regime orders Alex Saab not to cooperate with the US
Through a letter, the Chavista regime urged Alex Saab not to collaborate with the United States, once the alleged front man of Nicolás Maduro is extradited from Cape Verde. Such an order from the Nicolás Maduro regime was made through a document cited by Reuters, and presented in a US court by Alex Saab's lawyers.
Alex Saab, a Colombian businessman of Lebanese origin, is accused by US prosecutors of money laundering in connection with a corrupt agreement related to the food program of the CLAP box regime. The Colombian was arrested last June in Cape Verde pursuant to a red notice from Interpol. He is fighting an extradition request from the United States.
Specialists on the subject and according to the antecedents of other similar cases, point out the probability that Nicolás Maduro's front man will negotiate with the US justice a reduction of his sentence in exchange for information.
That is why the Chavista regime called on Alex Saab not to collaborate with the US government once the extradition is carried out, the process of which is still ongoing despite the house-to-jail measure granted to Maduro's front man
In a filing in the US District Court, Southern District of Florida, Saab's attorneys argued that he should not be considered a fugitive from US justice because the Venezuelan government appointed him a special envoy in 2018.
Saab's defense included a letter received by the Colombian in July from Chavista Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza. He addressed him as the Special Representative to the Islamic Republic of Iran" of the South American country.
The letter indicated that Saab had information considered classified by Venezuela.
Arreaza said that if Saab was extradited, he would be pressured legitimately or not to reveal information that the regime does not want to reveal.
You are subject to Venezuelan law and you have the duty to maintain strict confidentiality with respect to the classified information you have, Jorge Arreaza told Alex Saab through the letter.
