US election: Judge stops Donald Trump's change plans at the Post for the time being
Starting this Friday, citizens of the US state of Minnesota will be able to elect a new president by postal vote, other states will follow in the coming days. The actual voting is on November 3rd.
The dispute over the postal vote has now entered the next round, a federal court is temporarily halting the operational changes ordered in July at the US Post Office after several states warned of the negative effects on the presidential election. District judge Stanley Bastian issued a corresponding injunction on Thursday in Yakima in the case, which is directed against President Donald Trump , Post chief Louis DeJoy and the Federal Post Office itself.
The 14 plaintiff states had shown that the defendants were involved in a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the postal service. They also stated that this attack on the post office is likely to irreparably damage the ability of the states to hold the November election. In fact, damage has already been done. Post delivery will be slowed down, which will probably also slow down the delivery of voting slips.
