United States: Review all additional sanctions and diplomatic incentives for North Korea

US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln said on the 1st February, that he is reviewing North Korea policy and that he is looking at both additional sanctions and diplomatic incentives against North Korea. It is interpreted as meaning that both sticks and carrots are placed on the table and reviewed in order to lead North Korea to the negotiating field and advance denuclearization.

In an interview aired by the NBC that day, the first thing the President asked us to do is to reconsider the policy to make it clear that we are using the most effective means to advance the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and deal with the North Korean arms increase, revealed. Then, to the question of what North Korean leader Kim Jong-un must do to hold talks with US President Joe Biden, the policy review includes additional sanctions, especially additional coordination and cooperation with allies and partners, as well as diplomatic incentives. It is done.

Secretary Blincoln's remarks are in line with the remarks at the Senate approval hearing on the 19th of last month that a general review of North Korea policy will proceed. However, it is remarkable that he specifically mentioned sanctions and diplomatic incentives. This suggests that the pressure on North Korea and compensation corresponding to North Korea's cooperation are being reviewed together. In addition, mention of the possibility of additional sanctions is interpreted as a warning that North Korea may draw out a strong policy if North Korea engages in provocative acts before the US reorganizes its North Korean policy.
