UI Changes the Contents of the Integrity Pact for New Students, Including Practical Political Rules

The University of Indonesia (UI) changed a number of integrity pacts that must be signed by new student candidates and obeyed while wearing a yellow jacket. Previously, this integrity pact was controversial because it was considered to curb freedom in the academic environment. In the latest draft received by Kompas.com, several new points were added. First, UI students did not commit actions contrary to Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

Second, UI students will not commit or be involved in criminal acts, especially drug abuse, sexual harassment, sexual violence, intolerance, radicalism, and terrorism in any form". Previously, the point about criminal acts only prohibited UI students from engaging in alcohol, narcotics and sexual crimes. Then, the articles which had become controversial, namely the prohibition of practicing politics that disturbs the state order and being involved in organizations that the faculty / university leadership is not allowed to do was changed to be more specific. The prohibition applies only to within campus. The draft integrity pact later changed the term to statement letter. In addition, there is no obligation for students to sign it on a seal. However, apart from students, parents or guardians also need to sign the document.
