On Wednesday, the Togolese government met in the Council of Ministers.and this opportunity for the country's main administrators to discuss the subject of digital transformation. Several projects were mentioned and a preliminary draft decree was adopted. It concerns the protection of personal data.
On this issue in particular, the State is planning to set up a Personal Data Protection Authority (IPDCP). It will be responsible for enforcing a law in this area, voted on October 23, 2019. To do this, the IDCP will have powers of investigation, intervention and sanction. These will enable it to ensure that any processing of personal data respects the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals at the same time as the interests of the State, local authorities, businesses and other legal entities.
Other topics covered include biometric identification and the computerization of criminal records. The first city has just passed a new stage and is heading towards its finalization. The second still has some way to go, but things should be speeded up.
