The administration of the short video service TikTok has introduced a number of restrictions for users under 18. Now the accounts of children between the ages of 13 and 15 are automatically private they can only be viewed by approved subscribers, and comments on videos posted by people under the age of 16 can only be allowed to friends or anyone at all. Others will not be able to access the child's account. According to a press release, the new measures should help adolescents develop an informed approach to content publishing and communication on the platform. TikTok strives to create a friendly and safe environment on the platform so that all users, including minors, can freely share their creativity, the company explained. The new rules come into force today. In addition, the Suggest your account to others setting will be disabled by default for users aged 13-15. The functions of a duet, "stitching" (inserting fragments of other people's videos into your own) and downloading videos for such accounts will also be unavailable. For adolescents from 16-17 years old, the duet and stitching options will remain open only for friends. Another user will be able to save the video to the device memory only if its author is already 16 years old. In February 2019, US authorities fined TikTok $ 5.7 million for collecting names, email addresses, and locations of minors. After that, a whole section appeared in the application, where children can only watch videos, but not publish content or comment. In 2020, the developers of TikTok added Family Safety Mode (Family Safety Mode), which allows parents to hide unwanted content from minors, restrict or completely turn off private messages. It is impossible to disable the settings of the family mode without the knowledge of the elder.
