The US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs David Stillwell announced on the 17th that the US State Department is not discussing the possibility of withdrawing US forces in Korea.
Deputy Secretary Stilwell appeared at a hearing on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the same day and the Democratic Party said, `it is reported that the Donald Trump administration is weighing on the withdrawal of US troops in Korea. Of course, these issues require cooperation. So I will discuss it with Korea but there is no discussion of that in the State Department.
The USA Today reported on the 10th that Watergate special reporter Bob Woodward interviewed President Trump and wrote a new book Rage suggesting the possibility of withdrawal of US forces in Korea.
Woodward said, Trump wanted to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan and South Korea, Trump was in a hurry. It was immediate. Get them out!" Trump ordered. The Washington Post diplomatic and security columnist David Ignatius also said in a column on the 30th of last month that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held back President Trump's withdrawal of US troops in Korea .
President Trump has emphasized the need to reduce US troops stationed abroad. It recently announced that it will reduce the number of US troops in Afghanistan to 4,000 and Iraqi to 2,000 in the near future. The U.S. forces that President Trump is pursuing to return to their country are U.S. forces in Afghanistan and the Middle East, so they have no direct relationship with the U.S. forces in Korea. Some observations have suggested that the measures include US forces in Korea.
