Robert O'Brien, a US national security adviser, analyzed the strategy of the Xi Jinping regime in the area and what a landing attempt would look like. By law, Washington is obliged to provide the island with means to defend itself
US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien warned China against any attempt to take Taiwan by force , noting that amphibious landings on the island are extremely difficult and that there is much "ambiguity" around how it could respond. Washington.
At an event held at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, O'Brien explained that China was undertaking massive shipbuilding that had not been seen since before World War I , when Germany was trying to compete with the British Royal Navy. .
He said,pPart of that operation involves pushing us (the US) out of the western Pacific and allowing (China) to participate in an amphibious landing in Taiwan. The problem with that is that amphibious landings are notoriously difficult. According to O'Brien noting the 100-mile distance between China and Taiwan and the scarcity of landing beaches on the island.
He said, it is not an easy task and there is also a lot of ambiguity about what the United States would do in response, when reporters asked about Washington's options should China decide to occupy Taiwan.
Beijing regards the island as its province and has promised to bring it under its control, using force if necessary.
The United States is required by law to provide Taiwan with a means to defend itself , but it is unclear whether it would intervene militarily in the event of a Chinese attack, a scenario that would likely lead to a much broader conflict with the Asian giant.
O'Brien's remarks come at a time when China has significantly stepped up military activity near Taiwan, with Washington-Beijing relations at their lowest in decades and House elections nearing. White
