The Polisario asks UNESCO to remove Laâyoune from its network of learning cities
The Polisario is standing up against UNESCO's decision to integrate Laâyoune into its global network of learning cities. The separatist movement qualifies it, in a statement released today by its representative at the UN, as a provocative step and calls on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to take all measures. necessary to correct this unjustified error in order to preserve its credibility and impartiality.
The Polisario affirms that the registration of Laâyoune at the request of the Moroccan occupying power, is null and void and has no legal effect. Brahim Ghali's movement is used to disseminating this kind of statement every time a city in the Sahara hosts an international event. This is evidenced by his opposition to the organization of the Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla. The same reaction was recorded last July against the designation of Dakhla to house the headquarters of the Africa Network of Francophone Houses.
