A 5.4-ton bomb exploded in a sea channel near the Baltic during the defuse operations, near the port city of Swinoujscie, in Poland, without causing injuries. The Polish news agency Pap reports. The bomb, of the 'Tallboy' type, is the largest WWII bomb ever found unexploded in Poland. The bomb was dropped by the British air force in April 1945, during the operation that led to the sinking of the German cruiser Lutzow.
The shock wave was felt in some areas of Swinoujscie, where the alarm went off for the natural gas terminal, which is not damaged. All the bomb disposal divers were away from the danger zone at the time of the explosion. The device, six meters long, was embedded in the seabed at a depth of 12 meters, with only the ogive protruding out.
