The massive drop in the websites of Russian government agencies on Wednesday morning may be due to cyber attacks from the United States, Senator Andrei Klimov said.

In a commentary to Open Media, he recalled that such cyberattacks were recently announced by The New York Times, citing sources in the American administration.

According to him, since such threats against the Russian Federation from Washington sounded more than once, the possibility of an attack by American hackers cannot be ruled out.

Dmitry Trenin, head of the Carnegie Moscow Center, also suggested that the failure of the websites of Russian authorities could be the result of a cyber attack from the United States.

At the same time, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the official website of the Kremlin is working. According to him, reports RIA Novosti , the Kremlin saw messages that the site was “lying”. “But, to be honest, they have not been confirmed with us. Everything opens up for us, everything works, ”said Peskov. For clarification, he suggested contacting the Ministry of Digital Science, which he called the Ministry of Communications in the old fashioned way. “Probably, the Ministry of Communications will give some explanations. The Ministry of Digital Industry has already stated that problems with access to a number of government agencies websites are connected with malfunctions of routers used in Rostelecom's network.
