Switzerland voted against restrictions on movement of EU personnel in favor of buying new fighters
Switzerland voted against restrictions on movement of EU personnel in favor of buying new fighters the free movement of people between Switzerland and the European Union (EU). At the same time, a small majority supported the government's purchase of new fighter jets to replace old models. The right-wing party "Swiss People's Party" (Swiss People's Party) proposal requires the government to suspend the implementation of an existing bilateral agreement with the EU on the free movement of people in order to curb EU immigration to Switzerland. But today’s referendum results show that nearly 62% of voters voted against the referendum, and only 38% voted in favor.
Another issue to be decided in the referendum is whether to support the government's investment of 6 billion Swiss francs (about NT$190 billion) to purchase new fighter jets to replace old models. The result of the referendum was unexpectedly fierce, with 50.1% of voters voting for it. The ticket passed the case in a thrilling manner. The new aircraft purchased by the Swiss government in the future will replace the current fleet of 30 F/A-18 Hornet fighters. These old fighters are expected to be decommissioned in 2030.
