Srnegalese diaspora in Barcelona asking the authorities to open a consulate in Barcelona
The Senegalese diaspora in Barcelona through its spokesperson Abdourahamane Diallo, is asking the authorities in particular the Head of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Aïssata Tall Sall to open a consulate in Barcelona. Now they have to go to Madrid to renew a passport, for example, in reality, it is a complaint which dates from about fifteen years informs LAs.
According to Mr. Diallo, 70% of Senegalese in Spain live in Catalonia. The diaspora is reinforced these years by the migratory flow of Senegalese. According to him, the situation has become more complicated with the Covid-19 because they can no longer travel to Madrid, the epicenter of the pandemic. During the period of confinement, many Senegalese living in Catalonia remained 6 to 8 months without a valid passport and others saw their renewal date pushed back up to 10 months. Mr. Diallo informs that any Senegalese whose passport has expired cannot access medical care or have an accommodation certificate.
