Sandinismo approves law that controls foreign income of Nicaraguans
The Nicaraguan Parliament, controlled by the ruling party, approved the punitive law that will control the financing of individuals, companies and non-governmental organizations that receive funds from abroad. This is the Law for the Regulation of Foreign Agents, classified as legislation that violates the Constitution of that country. The approved regulations require that every Nicaraguan who works for foreign companies or organizations register with the Ministry of the Interior (Interior), and report their income and expenses on a monthly basis.
In addition, you must notify how you will use the funds received. The law establishes penalties for those who do not adhere. The same legislation explains that citizens who receive funds from abroad will be registered as foreign agents and prohibits them from financing or promoting any type of organization or political movement in that country.
Likewise said foreign agents may not be public employees nor may they run for popularly elected positions. This regulation would inhibit the participation of opposition politicians in the 2021 elections.
