Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani told Bloomberg TV that Qatar has urged Gulf Arab states to enter into dialogue with Iran, and that this is the right time for Doha to mediate negotiations.
He added in the interview that the Gulf Cooperation Council states also have the same desire, as he put it.
The Qatar minister said that his government supports the ongoing discussions between Iran and South Korea for the release of an oil tanker seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard early this month.
Separately on the possibility of talks between the United States and Iran, he said Qatar would facilitate discussions if asked to do so and would support whoever is chosen for that mission.
On possible talks between Washington and Tehran, he said that his country wants to achieve an achievement and wants to reach an agreement between the two.
