The President of the Republic, Martín Vizcarra, together with the Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Estremadoyro, verified the progress of the construction works of the new Multipurpose Port Terminal of Chancay. Currently, the project is in the beginning of its first stage, contemplating the construction of a 1,820 meter long tunnel that will link the port operating area with the entrance complex to the future terminal , without colliding with the development of the activities of the city of Chancay .
To this end, the construction works of the entrance portal are being carried out with the placement of piles and anchors that will give stability to the land, as well as the ramp for the conveyor belt of loose material. These initial works commit an investment of US $ 1,100 million and consist of 3 components construction of the entrance complex (front port area where the trucks will remain before entering the port ) access tunnel below the city and the port operational area, which will have 4 berths in the first stage.
Depending on demand, the port area could grow to 15 berths and the logistics activities area would grow to 800 hectares available, with a total investment of around 3 billion dollars.
The minister said, this mega work will promote, during its operation phase, the economic development of the central-north zone of Lima by creating 15 thousand direct and indirect jobs generated thanks to new business opportunities and jobs associated with logistics operations and port.
The head of the MTC added that the foregoing is complemented by the development of other logistics activities that are being developed in Ancón and Callao, which will not only order imports and exports, but will also allow the development of new markets and opportunities, as well as distribute the flow of trucks that circulate in the north of the capital, forming a port pair with the port of Callao and improving traffic conditions through the streets and avenues in the capital.
According to the project, the development of this initiative will transform Chancay into one of the main gateways to Peru and a hub for cargo from Asian ports to South America. The project is in charge of the company Cosco Shipping Ports Perú SA and is located in the Chancay district, Huaral province, Lima department, 56 kilometers north of the capital.
