President Moon appeals to Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau for support of Yoo Myung-hee

President Moon Jae-in spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the 27th and appealed for support of Candidate Yu Myung-hee in the election for the Secretary-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). On the same day, through major foreign media such as AFP, it is reported that EU member states have agreed to support candidate Okonjoyweala, a rival candidate in Nigeria. All efforts were put into the election of the candidate. President Moon introduced in the call on the same day as Candidate Yoo is a candidate who has the expertise in the field of commerce, the network he has built as an incumbent Minister of Trade, and political leadership.
At the same time, he urged Canada to support Candidate Yoo, who is the best person to successfully carry out WTO reform as it participates in the Ottawa Group a small WTO reform group. The Ottawa Group was created by Canada to discuss WTO reform and it includes Korea, the EU, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway and Brazil.
Prime Minister Trudeau praised Candidate Yoo's experience and capabilities and wished Yoo's goodwill in the final round. President Moon then thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for sending a video message to the 70th anniversary of the Korean War. In addition, he praised Prime Minister Trudeau's strong internally and externally leading international cooperation against the Covid-19 crisis and prayed for the quick stability of the covid-19 crisis in Canada.
The two leaders stated that the two countries are strategic partnerships and countries with similar positions on the international stage and decided to continue close cooperation on various international stages such as the WTO.
