Palestine: Mahmoud Abbas accepts the resignation of a senior PLO official
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday accepted the resignation of Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). President Abbas accepted Ashrawi's resignation at her request after she handed him an official resignation letter a few days ago. Ms Ashrawi did not mention the reasons for her resignation.
She said, the time has come for a real reform of our official institutions and of the PLO, in order to revive them and preserve their power. The time has come to practice democracy to organize general elections and to achieve true national unity by practicing democracy. She nevertheless declared.
A member of the PLO Executive Committee since 2009, Ms. Ashrawi was re-elected there in 2018.
