Ottawa man charged after homophobic slurs directed at Somerset pub patrons
A 66 year old Ottawa man has been arrested and charged with a hate motivated assault and mischief under $5,000, following an altercation that occurred last week on Somerset Street West.
According to police, the incident took place at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the 300 block of Somerset Street, near O’Connor Street. Police said a man approached a business and confronted the owner and patrons who were seated on a patio, and then began shouting profanities and homophobic slurs at them before throwing objects in their direction, causing property damage and striking the owner. He was arrested the following day, and was scheduled to appear in court last Friday.
