North Korea: Former director of foreign affairs of the North Korean Defense Committee, died


 

The Chosun Central News Agency reported on the 22nd that Jeon Hee-jeong, the former director of foreign affairs of the North Korean Defense Committee, died. Hee-jung Jeon has been in charge of the protocols of the rich Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il since the 1980s, and is a person who assisted in the inter-Korean summits in 2000 and 2007 in close proximity.


The Chosun Central News Agency reported on the day that Comrade Kim Jong-un sent a wreath on the 21st, expressing deep condolences for the death of former Foreign Ministry injured Comrade Jeon Hee-jung, who was the recipient of the Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il medals. The communication did not report the exact date of death. Considering that Jeon Hee-jung was born in 1930, it is estimated that he died at the age of 90.


The communication said, Comrade Hee-jung Jeon, who grew up as a competent worker (executive) in the field of foreign affairs in the arms of the great men of savings, is committed to realizing the foreign policy of our Party and the government of the Republic with unlimited fidelity and dedication to the Party and the revolution, the country and the people. During the first inter-Korean summit in 2000, Jeon Hee-jeong, who took the position of ‘foreign affairs director at the Geum Fisheries Memorial Palace received former President Kim Dae-jung, who arrived at Sunan Airport in Pyongyang, on board and guided the National Defense Commissioner Kim Jong-il who met him at the airport. At the 2007 summit meeting between former President Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Jong-il, he was a 77-year-old with white hair, but he served as a guide to the two leaders by taking on a protocol.


Hee-jeong Jeon worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the 1950s, serving as the No. 1 secretary in Cambodia and the councilor in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Since the 1980s, he is a veteran who has been in charge of the foreign activities of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il. At the time of Kim Jong-il's death in 2011, he was included in the list of the State Chiefs' Committee, and was later retired due to injuries to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
