Myanmar: Facebook blocked by authorities, calls to resist continue to spread

Three days after the coup that overthrew Aung San Suu Kyi's government, Facebook services were disrupted Thursday as calls for resistance spread. One of the country's main telecommunications providers confirmed that authorities had issued an order to "temporarily block" the social network.


The services of Facebook, an essential tool of communication in Myanmar, were disrupted Thursday, February 4, three days after the coup that toppled the civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi, while calls to resist the putsch continued to be spread.


The army abruptly ended the country's fragile democratic transition on Monday, establishing a state of emergency for one year and arresting Aung San Suu Kyi and other officials of his party , the National League for Democracy (LND ).
