Mike Pompeo :The U.S. suddenly verifies that Taiwan is not China
Pompeo recently accepted an interview with the radio show Hugh Hewitt Show and talked about many issues related to China. In his process, he mentioned, Taiwan is not part of China and the policies followed by the US bipartisan government in the past 35 years have also recognized In this matter, the United States promised to cross-party to Taiwan, and both parties understand that Taiwan is a model of democracy.
In this regard, Wu Sezhi, a researcher at the Cross-Strait Policy Association said that in the past, when the US government talked about cross strait relations it had always adopted a vague strategy and did not respond positively. This time Pompeo made it clear.
Wu Sezhi pointed out that Pompeo’s remarks are a manifestation of the policies of the Trump administration and for the future Biden administration to set a clear red line when handling cross-strait policies. This will highlight that the United States recognizes China’s one China principle. The discussion will reveal the bottom line of the US negotiations with China.
Wu Sezhi said that China did not dare to take too much action and reaction to Pompeo's remarks, and China could not respond to past remarks because they were worried that there would be other actions before the Trump administration stepped down.
Wu Sezhi believes that if China exerts any pressure on Taiwan, the Trump administration will surely counterattack fiercely. Beijing is worried that if things develop in this way, the Biden administration’s China policy will loss of flexibility in the future.
