The Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán , spoke on Thursday, October 8 with the members of the technical mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) , Julie Kozak and Luis Cubeddu , about the energy policy carried out by the Government.
Guzmán was accompanied by the Secretary of Energy, Darío Martínez , in a meeting held at the Palacio de Hacienda, official sources reported. This meeting is part of a series of meetings that the IMF's representation has been holding with officials, representatives of industry, banking, commerce, and union organizations.
The mission is part of the work undertaken by Argentina and the IMF with a view of agreeing a new financing program that allows refines n astern of US $ 44,500 million that Argentina owes the body .
Before the meeting, Cubeddu; Kozak; and the representative of the organization in the country, Trevor Alleyne , had met with representatives of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA ). At the moment, the leadership of the CGT was meeting at the headquarters of the UOCRA union with representatives of the IMF mission visiting Buenos Aires, in view of the negotiations that the organization will initiate with the Government.
After the meeting they held with the UIA authorities, now IMF officials will listen to the views of the unionists , who days ago anticipated that they will ask the organization to reach an agreement with the Government " seeking a balance" and avoiding "adjustments ".
Yesterday, they had met with the president of the Central Bank, Miguel Pesce , where they discussed measures to curb the loss of reserves and exchange controls. Although the managing director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva , announced that the Fund did not arrive to request an adjustment, the Government had already made the negotiations conditional on the agreement not affecting the stabilization of the economy or the reactivation of activity.
The priority for the Alberto Fernández administration is to extend the payment terms of the debt that reaches more than 44,000 million dollars and the Minister of Economy has already announced that he will not request new disbursements from the body.
