Francistown Police have launched a manhunt for three men who allegedly robbed Choppies Meriting money amounting to P190,000 on Saturday night. This is the second time the store was robbed in less than two years. In January last year three masked men robbed the store and made away with cash amounting to P20,000. To this day the three men remain on the run. Yesterday, Central Police Station commander Lebalang Maniki said that the unidentified robbers entered the store at around 8:30pm on Saturday and forcefully took away money from the store.

Maniki said, I cannot state exactly where they got the money inside the store because investigations are ongoing. The alleged robbers fled the scene on foot. Mmegi sources have indicated that the alleged robbers forcefully took the money from the tellers when they were about to reconcile proceeds for the day’s trading. No one was injured during the incident. The alleged robbers threatened staff members with an object that looked like a gun. They also forcefully made their way into the store because it was already closed.

The Saturday incident came just days after three masked men allegedly robbed a man aged between 30 and 35, and his family at their home in Monarch, Area 2.

Maniki said, the trio allegedly threatened the man and his family members with weapons suspected to be a gun and a grass slasher. The suspects robbed the man and his family of cash amounting to P7,000 and cell phones. The suspects also allegedly stole the man’s Toyota Hilux Twin Cab, which was later found abandoned a few kilometres away from the crime scene. None of the family members were harmed. At the moment we cannot rule out a possibility that the three men could be linked to the recent Choppies robbery because investigations are still ongoing.
