Libya: Seven Indians abducted in Libya Attempts to rescue were intensified
They were abducted on September 14 on their way to Tripoli airport on their way back to India from Aswarif.
Seven Indians were kidnapped in Libya 's Foreign Ministry. Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said seven Indians from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh had been abducted last month and efforts were being made to release them. They were abducted on September 14 on their way to Tripoli airport on their way back to India from Aswarif.
He said, the government is in touch with their families and is making every effort to consult with the Libyan authorities and their employers. Kidnappers contacted the employer and sent photos of the victims. Libya, an oil-rich country in North Africa, has witnessed massive violence and unrest since the fall of four decades of Muammar Gaddafi's rule in 2011 . Srivastava said the Indian embassy in Tunisia had also approached Libyan government officials for the release of the abductees. It has also sought the help of international organizations there to help save Indian citizens.
Indian Mission in Tunisia In September 2015, the government issued an advice to Indian citizens to avoid traveling to Libya due to security concerns related to the welfare of Indian citizens in Libya. In May 2016, the government imposed a complete travel ban in Libya due to security concerns. Srivastava said the travel ban was still in effect.
