Indian Railways will never be privatized: Piyush Goel
Railways are also being sold to private companies. The opposition has repeatedly made such comments. But there was no certainty as to how much privatization was going on. Railway Minister Piyush Goel clarified this time after clearing the fog. He has assured not to privatize.
He made it clear that private investment will be made. But there will be no privatization. At the same time, he said, this private investment is being made so that the railways can work with efficient efficiency.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday on the debate over why rail grants are needed, Goel said not a single passenger had died in a train accident in two years. Because, the railways have paid enough attention to the safety of the passengers. The last death of the passenger was in March 2019.
The government and the private sector have to work together to improve the railways. This will increase employment.
Rail is the property of Indians. That will remain. It will not be sold to private companies. Railways will be in the hands of the government forever.
Goel said the allocation for railways in the 2019-20 financial year was Tk 1.5 lakh crore. The Modi government has increased it to Tk 2.15 lakh crore in 2021-22.
But the railways handed over some of the trains to private companies. Private companies are going to get permission to run 151 trains on 120 routes. In which there are multiple trains of Howrah route.
According to railway sources, investment will increase if private trains run. The service will be improved.
