The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has slammed Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for supporting Patanjali's coVid-19 vaccine coronil. The IMA said on Monday that according to the rules of the Medical Council of India (MCI), no doctor can promote any drug. Harshvardhan himself is a doctor, so he has acted against the rules. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also rejected Patanjali's claims about coronil drug.
The WHO made it clear on the evening of 19 February that it had neither reviewed any traditional medicine nor given a certificate to anyone. WHO South-East Asia gave this information through social media.
Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on February 19 launched the medicine of Covid-19. Union ministers Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Nitin Gadkari were also present in the program. During this time, a scientific research paper on First Evidence Based Medicine of Covid-19 was presented.
Ramdev claims medicine is WHO certified. In the program, Ramdev, the co-founder of the Ayurvedic firm, claimed that Ayurvedic medicine is WHO certified. He claimed coronil to be a better medicine to treat corona. He said that clinical trials have also been done.
After this, Acharya Balakrishna, managing director of Patanjali Ayurved, gave a clarification. He had said that the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has given a Pharmaceutical Product Certificate (CPP) for coronil. The WHO does not approve or reject any medication.
