Huawei will not receive a security clearance in the Czech Republic, writes Deník N
The telecommunications company Huawei in the Czech Republic will not receive a security check, the company has confirmed this information to Deník N. It is considering that it will request a lower level of check. In 2018, the National Office for Cyber and Information Security (NÚKIB) also warned against the company. However, the company's management has repeatedly rejected accusations of espionage.
According to the Huawei server, she recently asked for the review process to be stopped because it was not developing favorably for her.
The company spokesman Tomáš Kolder. said, Huawei is now considering various scenarios that are based on our business needs. The daily N stated that Huawei had requested a secret clearance.
The security check is granted by the National Security Office and is a condition for private companies to be able to participate in selected state tenders including for the construction of 5G networks. However, Huawei does not currently need a security check to cooperate with Czech operators in building 5G mobile networks in the Czech Republic. The Chinese company is one of the world's leading suppliers of this technology.
In April this year, however, the Senate asked the government to clarify its position on the issue of the involvement of Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE in the introduction of 5G communication networks in the country. The senators referred to the warning issued by NÚKIB in 2018. The office identified Huawei and ZTE technologies as a security risk. The warning concerned systems included in the so called critical information infrastructure, or important information systems. Huawei defends that there is no evidence for a warning.
In January, the European Commission advised member states not to let companies considered a security risk to build sensitive parts of 5G networks. However, the Commission's recommendation leaves the decision on high risk companies to the Member States, but calls for a uniform approach. Huawei has long been under strong pressure, especially from the US government, which is boycotting the company's products and trying to persuade its allies to join and reject Huawei products as well. Washington says Huawei is allowing the Chinese government to spy on its devices, which Huawei rejects. Due to this pressure, however, the number of orders abroad has decreased, but the data show that the large domestic market has recently become all the more important for the company.
Washington blacklisted Huawei last year and announced restrictions in May that prevented a Chinese company from acquiring chips developed or manufactured using US technology without special permission. In August, the US administration announced that it was tightening sanctions.
In the summer, the British government banned the use of Huawei technology in the construction of 5G networks from next year. Already used components of a Chinese company must be removed by 2027. The Romanian government has also proposed conditions for the selection of a 5G contractor, which de facto eliminates Huawei.
The French authorities have again informed telecommunications operators planning to purchase Huawei equipment for fifth generation networks that it will not be possible to renew the authorization for these devices after their expiry. They added that, given the period of validity of the permit, this essentially means the gradual exclusion of Huawei from the French 5G networks by 2028.
