Harland becomes the first U.S. Indian cabinet minister

The U.S. Senate voted on the 15th to confirm Biden 's nomination for Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland. This historic vote also made her the first Indian to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Cabinet.

This is not the first time that the 60-year-old Harland has made history. In 2018, she was elected and became the first two female Native American lawmakers in the United States .

The Senate by 51 votes to 40 votes through Harland nomination, even though most Republicans everyone voted against, but still include Billy Graham (Lindsey Graham), Collins (Susan Collins), Sullivan (Dan Sullivan) and Mu Cowes Lisa Murkowski and other Republican lawmakers voted in favor.

Harland emphasized at the confirmation hearing that he hopes his nomination can inspire Americans to "go forward together" and create opportunities for everyone.

When talking about work motivation, Harland said that "it is hard not to feel obligated to protect this land. Every indigenous people understand this," adding that "we want to protect this country, no matter what."

Harland will enter the White House and prioritize the consequences of climate change. President Biden is currently considering a series of related measures, including raising pollution standards to speed up the conversion of low-carbon energy sources, thereby posing a threat to the fossil fuel industry.
