Georgia announced the strengthening of the US presence in the region
Following a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia announced the strengthening of the US presence in the Transcaucasian region. This was reported on the website of the Georgian government.
I want to assure you that we really feel that the moment has come to strengthen our cooperation and partnership, as well as to strengthen the presence of the United States in the region, Gakharia said, without explaining what kind of strengthening is in question.
A so-called silent protest action is taking place in Tbilisi. A number of streets in the city center were blocked. Thus, the opposition seeks to convey to the American side its opinion that the results of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia were falsified, writes Sputnik Georgia.
On November 1, the Central Election Commission of Georgia published the results of the parliamentary elections under the proportional system. According to them, the ruling Georgian Dream party won with 48.15 percent of the vote. In second place with 27.14 percent is the opposition bloc Strength in Unity. Another 30 deputies are to be elected under the majoritarian system, but the "Georgian Dream" in any case wins a majority in parliament. The opposition did not recognize the election results and refused to enter parliament. Protest actions began in the country.
