France: Three bodies in the Council of the Islamic Religion refuse to sign the Charter of Principles

Three bodies in the French Council of the Islamic Faith refused Wednesday to sign a charter of principles to regulate Muslim affairs in France in its current form. The three bodies, namely, the Coordinating Committee of Turkish Muslims in France, the Islamic Union Milli Gorsuch in France, and the militant Faith and Practicemovement, issued a joint statement denouncing what it considered paragraphs and formulations in the text that would weaken the bonds of trust between Muslims. France and the nation.

In the midst of a campaign he led to confront the "isolationism tendency in the country, French President Emmanuel Macron called for the development of this charter, which was signed Sunday by five of the nine bodies of the French Council of the Islamic Faith, after internal disputes that lasted for several weeks.

After the Council officially adopted the charter on Sunday, Macron praised the move, which it considered to constitute an explicit and precise commitment to the republic.

The charter stipulates in particular the principle of equality between men and women and the compatibility of Islamic law with the principles of the republic, and stresses the refusal to employ Islam for political ends and the need for non-interference by foreign countries in the affairs of the community, according to the president of the French Council of the Islamic Religion, Muhammad Mousavi.

However, the three bodies, which refused to sign, considered that some phrases (contained in the charter) violate the honor of Muslims and have an accusatory and marginal nature.
