Former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama posted a new post on Twitter on the night of the 15th. Mr. Biden, who secured the victory in the U.S. presidential election, had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on the 12th and received a report saying that Article 5 of the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty would be applied to Okinawa Prefecture and the Senkaku Islands. The article does not state the obligation to defend against Japan.
Mr. Hatoyama said, only the Japanese media said that Prime Minister Suga called with former Vice President Biden and said that Mr. Biden would apply Article 5 of the Security Treaty, which stipulates defense obligations to Japan for the Senkaku Islands. But Article 5 does not state the obligation to defend against Japan. It only states that it will act in accordance with the constitution of its own country. Should we refrain from misleading reports?.
