Forbes spoke about the American plan to destroy Russian tanks

Forbes revealed the details of the Pentagon's Assault Breaker 2 project, which aims to destroy Russian and Chinese strike forces in case of war. The author of the article noted that the project is very large-scale and so far there is very little information about it. However, this is not the first such US plan .

Back in the 70s, NATO , fearing that the Soviet Union would simply crush the alliance's defenses in case of war, developed the Assault Breaker plan. It assumed the rapid and accurate destruction of thousands of Soviet tanks and combat vehicles, which would disrupt the offensive and gain time to mobilize NATO units.

As the then US Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work said in 2015, Disruption of the offensive involved the use of detection and targeting aircraft, destroying targets with strikes over large areas, as well as ballistic missiles with homing anti-tank submunitions.

In fact, this plan consisted of aviation and ground units. Air assumes the use of B-52 bombers with new radars and missiles equipped with high-precision submunitions in cassettes. In the ground component, launchers of the US Ground Forces were to be used, which were aimed at the target by reconnaissance aircraft. This project was demonstrated in 1982, and representatives of the USSR attended the tests.

According to Forbes, the US wants a similar plan at the present time. It should include actions to destroy Russian tanks and Chinese ships in case of war.

A 2017 Pentagon Science Council report argues that Assault Breaker 2 can disable enemy forces and assets needed to achieve strategic success and allow the United States and its allies to deploy conventional weapons. Among the targets within Assault Breaker 2 are tanks, air defense systems, ships, headquarters, warehouses, and others.

Currently, the United States has elements of the old project ground forces missiles, airborne target designation radars for moving targets and various guidance systems. The author suggests that these components will be upgraded and incorporated into the new project.

New elements of the Assault Breaker 2 system are expected to include the RQ-180 stealth reconnaissance drones, new Advanced Combat Management System (ABMS) software, and long-range cruise missiles for the Air Force and Navy. In addition, the super intelligent bombs of the new type Golden Horde are mentioned, which can be used as part of a "swarm". The Ground Forces, in turn, are working on missiles and an artillery installation with a firing range of over 1,500 kilometers.

All of these weapons systems as part of a single complex are capable of destroying a large number of tanks and ships in a short period of time, which makes it possible to achieve the goal of disrupting the offensive.

At the same time, the Pentagon's scientific council admits that the project has serious flaws. So, Assault Breaker 2, although it involves strikes to the rear, but not to a very great depth. In addition, the system should not be prohibitively expensive.

At the same time, even if Assault Breaker 2 turns out to be an effective means of fighting the armies of Russia and China , Moscow and Beijing have an easy way to overcome this opposition, the Pentagon explained.
