Donald Trump received suspicious payments from a hotel during his 2016 presidential campaign

Donald Trump received some $ 21 million in "very unusual" payments in 2016 from a hotel he co-owned, an injection that came just as his presidential campaign was running low on funds , The New newspaper reported on Friday. York Times .

The newspaper, which has had access to tax returns from the president of the United States and has already published several information in this regard, points out that these funds were directed through several companies and ended up directly in Trump's pocket, although it is unknown what they were for used .

The money came from a Las Vegas hotel that Trump owns with casino mogul Phil Ruffin and was mostly funneled through a company called Trump Las Vegas Sales and Marketing, which previously had very limited revenues. and he had no employee.

According to tax experts cited by the NYT, the payments - which the hotel deducted as business expenses - are suspicious given the history of that company and the precise moment in which the transaction occurred.

These suggest that if the money was not paid in exchange for true expenses related to the hotel business, its deduction would be illegal, and that if they were used to finance the Trump campaign they could be an unauthorized electoral contribution.

According to the newspaper, Trump suffered significant liquidity problems during his campaign, which he financed himself, and in that period he sold about $ 40 million in shares.

In addition, he tried to secure a loan from Deutsche Bank, which he turned down for fear that the money would go to his electoral effort, rather than his businesses.

After all this was when the suspicious injection came from the Las Vegas hotel, which Trump controlled with Ruffin, who contributed a total of $ 2.5 million to the electoral campaign and the inauguration of his partner as president.
