Colombia: Number of migrants in the country would reach 2 million by the end of the year

Migration Colombia announced this Friday that the National Government is evaluating the possible reopening of the country's different border crossings for November 1, so the entity is preparing for a possible return of Venezuelan migrants who left voluntarily as a result of the health emergency caused by Covid-19 .

The measure, according to Juan Francisco Espinosa Palacios, Director General of Migration Colombia, could in the next two months increase the number of Venezuelans in Colombia to 2 million. It is up to us, Colombians, to reach out to the migrant to advance , and this means betting on mechanisms to achieve regularity for the largest number of migrants.

As of July 30, the consolidated number of Venezuelans in Colombia is 1,731,765 , of which 44% are in regular condition. During the intervention, the Director of Migration also announced a new Special Stay Permit (PEP) session , this session will be held free of charge on the entity's website and starts from October 15, 2020 until on February 15, 2021.

As a condition, Migration indicates that the interested party must have entered Colombia on a regular basis stamping a passport until August 31, 2020, not have a PEP, PEP-RAMV in force, canceled or expired, not have an expulsion order from the country or background criminal. This document will be granted regardless of whether the passport or extension is expired or about to expire.

This PEP cannot be delivered to those who have a visa or have arrived in the country after September 1, 2020. If the interested party arrived after August 31, he must wait for official announcements for the next PEP Day or he can apply for a visa.
