Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 2nd November. A foreign media reporter asked that it is understood that the visas previously extended by Chinese reporters in the United States will expire soon. I would like to ask whether their visas can be extended? If their visas cannot be extended, will China take countermeasures against American journalists in China?
Wang Wenbin said that as far as I know, some Chinese reporters were notified last week that their visa extension application was approved by the US and the validity period is from August 4 to November 4 this year, which means that the actual validity period of these visas is less than one week. In some cases, it was only three days before they had to immediately apply for a visa extension again, and there are still some Chinese reporters who have not yet received clear approval from the US to reply. The United States has unreasonably proposed that some reporters should not engage in reporting activities during the extension application period. The work and life of Chinese journalists in the United States are still in huge uncertainty.
Wang Wenbin said that with regard to what happened in the Chinese and American media, the facts are clear. Through bilateral diplomatic channels, China has clearly expressed its position to the US on China’s concerns and demands. China will take all necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese media reporters based on the principle of oral versus oral and action versus action.
Wang Wenbin said that we once again urge the US to immediately give up its illusions and stop the political persecution and suppression of Chinese journalists, otherwise China will definitely take resolute and reciprocal measures. Do not say that the Chinese dialect is unexpected.
