Canada's Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan has called on NATO to follow up as Chinese activities demonstrated in the South China Sea are clearly raising concerns, the Hindustan Times reported today.
In June 2019, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Canadian navy conducted a series of joint exercises in the South China Sea. More than a year earlier, the Canadian Senate passed a Conservative MP's petition criticizing China's aggressive behavior in the South China Sea . China has significantly increased its military presence and territorial claim in the South China Sea, despite opposition from neighboring countries and international rulings against Beijing's claims, according to CTV News.
