Brexit: 1 January 2021 new rules for moving to the United Kingdom
The effects of Brexit come alive. The British government has launched a European wide awareness campaign to prepare EU citizens for the system that will regulate immigration to the UK starting from January 1, 2021.
Free movement between the EU and the UK will end at 11.00pm on December 31st, and from that moment on, European citizens will no longer automatically have the right to move to live in the United Kingdom.
The UK will introduce a new points immigration system, which will treat people equally no matter where they come from, prioritizing skills and talent. Italian citizens who do not already live in the United Kingdom, or who have no rights under the Withdrawal Agreementto study or work in the UK, they will have to meet specific requirements and apply for a visa through the new immigration system. The campaign, which aims to inform European citizens about the change in immigration legislation to the United Kingdom, has also been translated into Italian and will continue during the months of November and December through various information channels, media and social media, with a second phase scheduled for early 2021.
The campaign encourages all European citizens, including Italians, to visit the UK government website ( www.GOV.UK/TrasferersiNelRegnoUnito not
;- The page is currently hided by gov ) where more information is available - translated into 23 languages - on how to apply to work or study in the UK. Under the new rules, EU citizens will be able to continue visiting the UK without applying for a visa and , in most cases, they will be able to stay for up to 6 months. The changes will not affect the rights guaranteed by the EU Settlement Scheme.
Visitors will be able to continue to do a wide range of activities including tourism, visits to family and friends, short-term study and commercial activities. The new immigration system sends a message to the whole world. Britain remains open for business.
British Ambassador to Italy, Jill Morris said, we want to continue to encourage top talent from around the world to bring their expertise to the UK . We want to welcome many deserving Italian students, who will undoubtedly continue to benefit from studying in our world-leading universities. But it is important to know what the regulations in force will be, and I urge all Italians to inform themselves in time stressed the diplomat.
