Bolsonaro government now seeks closer ties with Argentina
After seeking to lower the tone with China to guarantee inputs for the vaccine against Covid-19 and to make a nod to Joe Biden in the USA, the Brazilian government is acting to reduce tensions with Argentina, reports O Globo.
According to the Rio newspaper, Admiral Flávio Rocha, secretary of Strategic Affairs and one of Jair Bolsonaro's main assistants, is in the Argentine country for a series of visits to local authorities.
According to Brazilian authorities, the invitation to Rocha came from his Argentine counterpart, Gustavo Béliz. The visit was authorized by Bolsonaro, who now says he wants to build a relationship of mutual respect with the country governed by Kirchnerist Alberto Fernández.
The conciliatory gesture occurs at a time when the president is trying to strengthen Ernesto Araújo, criticized for his performance at the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After seeking to lower the tone with China to guarantee inputs for the vaccine against Covid-19 and to make a nod to Joe Biden in the USA, the Brazilian government is acting to reduce tensions with Argentina, reports O Globo.
