Bangladesh: Order to send four accused to jail
The court has ordered to send to jail four accused arrested for breaking a sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia city. Kushtia Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Amli Court Kushtia Judge Rezaul Karim passed the order on Tuesday. Earlier, Kushtia Model Police Station OC (Investigation) Nishikanta Sarkar applied to the court for remand of two students of the madrasa for 10 days and two teachers of the madrasa for seven days.
The accused were taken to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court from the Kushtia police line under tight security around 1:15 pm on Monday. At this time a crowd of lawyers and curious people could be seen present in the court premises. The accused were taken to court in a microbus. The accused in the case are: Abu Bakkar alias Mithan, Sabuj Islam alias Nahid, Madrasa teacher Alamin and Yusuf Ali.
After being taken to court, the accused were kept in jail there. After some time, they were taken to Kushtia District Jail under tight security. Among the accused, Mithun and Nahid have been remanded for 10 days and teachers Alamin and Yusuf have been remanded for seven days. Later, the court rescheduled the hearing for Tuesday and directed to send the accused to jail.
It may be mentioned that Madrasa students Mithan and Nahid broke the sculpture of Bangabandhu under construction at the intersection of five roads in Kushtia city between 2 pm and 2:13 pm on Friday. At this time they climbed to the top with a bamboo ladder and hit the sculpture under construction with the accompanying hammer. He broke various parts of his hands and face and distorted the sculpture. The issue remains a challenge for members of the law enforcement agencies. After 23 long hours, the accused were identified by the police after seeing the footage of various CCC cameras on Saturday. Later, a case was filed against the arrested under the Special Powers Act at Kushtia Model Police Station. During the police interrogation, if any other person or organization is involved in the incident, they will be identified.
