The Government expanded with a decree signed this Friday at the last minute the agenda to be discussed in the extraordinary sessions of Congress and the main novelty came in the last item of the annex, which refers to Health Emergency and Electoral Calendar 2021.
The incorporation of this year's Electoral Calendar to the parliamentary debate will enable legislators to produce changes in the conduct of midterm elections.
With this decision, the Executive empowers Congress to debate eventual modifications in the electoral schedule that may or may not include the postponement of the dates of the Simultaneous and Compulsory Open Primary (PASO) and the general elections.
The discussion of the election calendar could lead, if consensus is reached, in the one time suspension of the primaries. This initiative is promoted by some governors of the ruling party but resisted by other sectors of the Frente de Todos and the opposition .
The expansion of the agenda for the extraordinary sessions also incorporated other issues to be dealt with in Parliament, such as the reactivation of public works for housing and the implementation of the Federal Criminal Procedure Code.
The decree bears the signature of President Alberto Fernández; and the Chief of Cabinet, Santiago Cafiero. The authorities also added to the agenda the Bill sent by the Executive Power by Message 158/20 on December 27.
In the same way, they request Treatment of the health emergency and the Agreements for the designation of Central Bank Authorities, and Bill for the Promotion of Access to Formal Employment for Transvestites, Transsexuals and Transgender People Diana Sacayán - Lohana Berkins. Congress is also asked to question.
