An upcoming deal between Bahrain and Israel in the field of water desalination
Bahrain is close to signing a deal with the Israeli national water company, Mekorot to obtain the technology for desalination of brine, according to the Globus economic newspaper.
The site indicated that the deal will be signed in the coming days in the Bahraini capital, Manama, after discussions between the Israeli company and the Electricity and Water Authority in the Gulf island.
The Israeli newspaper report also said that the expected deal between Bahrain and Israel in the field of water desalination is worth millions of dollars annually.
The Israeli company said that its CEO, Eli Cohen, visited the UAE recently to hold talks with government institutions in Dubai about water technology, indicating that the UAE and Bahrain are interested in desalinating water and monitoring its quality, reducing waste and leaks, and working on water management systems.
The Bahraini Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Zayed Al-Zayani, said during his visit to Israel that his country is particularly interested in strengthening cooperation with Israel and benefiting from its experience in the field of water desalination.
During his visit to Israel in early December, Al-Zayani said that the two countries are working to achieve a rapid growth in bilateral relations between them. The whole world is watching these relations, and we will make it a success story that is studied for others.
The UAE and Bahrain concluded a peace agreement with Israel under the auspices of the United States earlier last year, when the two Gulf countries announced the establishment of full diplomatic relations with the Israeli state within the principles of the Ibrahim treaty.
This treaty opened doors for cooperation between the two Gulf countries and Israel in various fields, including the financial and banking sector, in addition to activating tourism, enhancing cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence technology, in addition to cooperation in the sports sector after the signing of a cooperation agreement between the UAE Football Association and its Israeli counterpart.
