Amnesty International has suspended operations in India. The union said it was suspending bank accounts and dismissing employees after the central government unjustly froze them. The poaching was a result of reports criticizing the central government.
The reports criticized human rights abuses during the Delhi riots and after the removal of Jammu and Kashmir's special powers. The retaliation was launched after the government, including the Directorate of Enforcement, demanded that the
government be transparent. Avinash Kumar, executive director of the Amnesty International India unit, has accused the central government of hunting down human rights groups under false pretenses. Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister said that an ED investigation was underway against Amnesty for accepting foreign funds without permission.
