A historical stay
The field, located in the Department of Uruguay, once belonged to Entre Ríos General Justo José de Urquiza, president of the Argentine Confederation between 1854 and 1860. The caudillo had bought it in 1846.
After Urquiza's death, the ranch was inherited by his daughter Justa, married to General Luis María Campos. The field was managed by different descendants until in 2005 Cresud bought it.
The main house in San Pedro dates from 1872, although the current residence was built on the original building in 1928. Meanwhile, the guest house dates from 1911.
According to a chronicle of the Litoral Region, the rooms are decorated with various historical objects, such as paintings, porcelain pieces, tapestries from the 16th century, shields, a handwritten greeting from Napoleon III, a silver inkwell, a singing book Gregorian made of leather, 13th-century carvings, decorations, letters, furniture, and personal accessories. Outside the main house, the buildings used by those who worked the lands of the ranch are preserved, which formed almost a town within it.
It has an artificial lake, a 180-hectare park, and the neo-Gothic chapel Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
During its years of splendor, the estancia resembled a small town: there was a bakery, a grocery store, a first aid room, a car nursery, and even a school provincial number 39 that still works today.
The San Pedro ranch was considered a locality by the INDEC in the 2001 census with a total of 64 inhabitants, but it lost that category in the 2010 census.
